Detroit’s recent financial takeover mirrors IMF imposed structural adjustment agreements in Latin America. This workshop introduces participants to critical race theory and a neocolonial/neoliberal economic analysis, looking at the way street art and radical organizing can support social movement and disrupt the harmful narratives. Participants will reflect on these trends in their own communities/homelands and imagine creative social interventions of their own.
La reciente adquisición financiera de Detroit refleja y repite los acuerdos de ajuste estructural impuestos por el FMI en América Latina. Este taller presente a lxs participantes la teoría crítica de la raza y un análisis económico neocolonial/neoliberal, analizando la forma en que el arte callejero y la organización radical pueden apoyar el movimiento social e interrumpir las narrativas dañinas. Lxs participantes reflexionarán sobre estas tendencias en sus propias comunidades/patrias y se imaginarán sus propias intervenciones sociales creativas.
